Ultraviolet Phototherapy

The Physiotherapy Department operates a phototherapy service for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions.

Narrowband UVB (also known as TLO-1) treatment is mainly used to treat the following skin conditions:

  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Mycosis Fungoides
  • Polymorphic Light Eruption
  • Psoriasis
  • Vitiligo

In order to receive Narrowband Ultraviolet treatment, you must be referred by a Consultant Dermatologist. The Narrowband UVB unit is designed to give a measured dose of UVB to the patient in order to clear their skin condition.

Treatment can take six-eight weeks with patients attending three sessions a week.

Treatment is administered by a trained physiotherapist and each patient is individually assessed so that the optimum treatment programme can be implemented to ensure the speediest recovery for each individual.
